Scientific Investigations of English Spelling:
Early Learner Module
The Early Learner Module is designed for students who are ready to learn the letters of the alphabet. Each Lesson Cycle is centered on a letter or grapheme of the alphabet. Students will learn the names of the letters, the sounds they can spell, words that contain the letter, and how to form the letter. Along the way, they will also learn Big Ideas about print, phonemic awareness, writing sentences, and how the English spelling system works.
Scientific Investigations of English Spelling:
Primary Module
The Primary Module is designed for students who are learning to read and spell one-syllable words featuring digraphs and trigraphs. Each Lesson Cycle is centered around a digraph or trigraph. Students will learn the sounds these graphemes can spell, words and word families that contain these graphemes. Along the way, they will also learn Big Ideas about antonyms, synonyms, word classes (noun, verb, etc.), compound words, function words, and other concepts from how the English spelling system works.
Scientific Investigations of English Vocabulary:
Middle School Module
The Middle School Module is designed for students who are increasing their vocabulary knowledge through the use of Greek and Latin roots. Each Lesson Cycle is centered around a word family featuring a common base or root. Students will practice adding prefixes and suffixes to derive new words and distinguish between similar affixes. Along the way, they will also deepen their understanding of how words function in phrases and clauses, and learn how classifying words into families helps them understand how the English spelling system works.
